Major Mine Equipment Order For Finning (2004-11-6)
Finning International Inc, the Vancouver-based Caterpillar dealer, said its South American division has received a significant order for mining equipment from Compania Minera Riochilex S.A., a subsidiary of BHP Billiton, and owner of the Spence Copper Project in northern Chile. The sale includes 21 Caterpillar 793C off-highway trucks, two Cat 994D wheel loaders and 15 additional Caterpillar machines and support equipment with a total value of approximately $69 million.Deliveries will take place throughout 2005, with all equipment in operation by December 2005. A Finning maintenance and repair contract covering the first five years of operations is currently being negotiated. The customer also has optons on four additional 793C trucks and one additional 994D loader with a combined value of approximately $9 million. Nissan, Mitsubishi To Introduce Urea SCR Trucks (2004-11-5)
Nissan Diesel Motor Co. has unveiled a 15-ton truck featuring its proprietary urea SCR system at the Tokyo Motor Show. The Japanese truck manufacturer said the vehicle will be officially introduced later this month. According to press reports in Japan, the government approved the new Nissan truck on November 1. Nissan is apparently getting a head start in marketing trucks that comply with Japan\'s new diesel emissions rules, which will be implemented in October 2005 and are among the tightest in the world.Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corp. also displayed a large-commercial-vehicle engine with a urea SCR system at the exhibition, and said it would release a vehicle equipped with the engine before next fall. Deere plans to add 30-40 jobs in the spring (2004-11-8)
Deere & Co. announced Friday that it plans to add 30-40 jobs at its John Deere Davenport Works next spring as a result of an agreement with Bell Equipment Limited of South Africa.Under the agreement, subject to approval by Bell\'s board of directors, the firm will license Deere to manufacture Bell-designed articulated dump trucks in North America and Deere will license Bell to manufacture Deere-designed side-shift backhoe loaders and 4-wheel-drive loaders in South Africa.Currently, Bell supplies the trucks to Deere for resale under the Deere brand name, principally in North America. The new arrangements are designed to provide significant cost-reduction opportunities and leverage the advantages of local manufacturing for both parties. Komatsu, Japan\'s biggest maker of construction machinery, said that profit in the first six month of its fiscal year tripled to a record, aided by rising demand for equipment used in mines and on building sites. The company raised its forecast for net income for the full year.Net income for the six months that ended Sept.30 rose to ¥26 billion, or $245 million, from ¥9.4 billion a year earlier, the company said in a statement released through the Tokyo stock exchange. Heerema Marine Contractors has bought a Kobelco CKE2500 crawler crane to adapt for its Balder deepwater construction vessel. The 250t capacity crane is replacing the previous assist crane that helps the Blader\'s 2700t capacity port crane and 3600t starboard crane.To operate in extreme weather, the CKE2500 has been specially prepared with marine paint and several back-up systems, from double brake systems on the winch to an electric back-up system approved by Lloyd\'s Register in case of engine failure.For enhanced visibility, the cab is raised to 4m above the deck of the vessel.The 64m boom offers a maximum working radius of 58m.
