Kawasaki Heavy to make more construction equipment in US (2005-4-14)
Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd. will invest about 100 million yen (US$930,518) to expand plant facilities in the US. This will help boost annual capacity of construction to 800 pieces by the end of fiscal 2005, up 15 per cent from the existing level.It will also inrease the staff of Kawasaki Construction Machinery, which is located in the U.S. state of Georgia, from the current 80 to 84 people.The subsidiary assembles equipment, chiefly wheel loaders, using parts made in Japan.(From yahoo.com) … Continue reading

Cat Shareholders Reject Israel Sales Review (2005-4-15)
Shareholders of Caterpillar Inc. have rejected a proposal that the company review its sale of bulldozers used to demolish houses and other property by Israel. The proposal was rejected by 97% of shareholders, the firm announced at its annual meeting in Chicago.The proposal has asked that the company\'s board appoint an outside committee to investigate wheter the sale of bulldozers directly or indirectely to the Israeli Defense Forces violated the company\'s code of worldwide business conduct. Navistar Subsidiary To Buy MWM Motores (2005-4-15)
Navistar International Corp. said its South American engine subsidiary, International Engines South America, has agreed to acquire MWM Motores Diesel Ltda (MWM), a major Brazilian diesel engine producer. Financial terms were not disclosed.MWM produces a broad line of medium- and high-speed diesel engines from 50 to 310 hp used in on-highway vehicles such as pick-ups, vans, light and semi-heavy trucks, as well as agricultural, marine and power generation applications. Group to build foothold in China (2005-4-16)
A Milwaukee-based trade group is starting the first international construction equipment training program in China.The Association of Equipment Manufacturers says it initiative is amied at Chinese machinery operators, supervisors and service technicians. It is backed by Wisconsin companies such as Manitowoc Crane.In 2004, China bought $262 million worth of U.S.-made construction industry machine, up 63% from 2003.China is buying hundreds of millions of dollars\' worth of construction equipment as it builds roads, dams, power plants and high-rise buildings in places that for centuries were largely rural.The association already has an office in Beijing and plans to host a construction equipment trade show there in 2006.Manitowoc Crane opened a new manufacturing plant in China last month, and companies such as Bucyrus International Inc. in South Milwaukee have done extensive business in China.The training program is part of a long-term effort to make the Chinese more familiar with U.S.-made equipment, thus giving companies… Continue reading

Genie takes on Terex light line in Europe (2005-4-5)
Genie, the aerial work platform subsidiary of Terex Corp, is taking over the distribution in Europe of Terex Light Construction (TLC) equipment, including lighting towers, concrete trowels and generator sets.Jacques Catinot, Genie\'s vice president for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, told ERN taht one of the initial goals will be to strenthen distribution in Europe, with the development of further dealer in countries including Germany, Italy and Spain.Equipment such as the Terex Amida light towers and Bartell concrete trowels are already CE marketed and the company is now also working on CE marking of the Coleman generators and the US-built compact dumpers, although the latter will have to be Europeanised, said Mr. Catinot.
