Deere Expands Landscape Distribution (2005-6-1)
Deere & Co. announced that John Deere Landscapes has acquired United Green Mark Inc. to enhance its position as a distributor of irrigation, nursery, lighting and landscape materials in the U.S. Deere said the acquisition adds to the company\'s John Deere Landscapes operation, which was formed in 2001 after Deere purchased companies in the wholesale landscape supplies and irrigation industries.United Green Mark has 41 locations in the western United States, mainly in California, and was previously owned by Olympus Partners, a private equity firm headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut. John Deere Landscapes, Alpharetta, Ga., will add the United Green Mark stores to the existing 250 John Deere Landscapes stores in the U.S. and Canada. Deere said the transaction allows the company to accelerate its entry and penetration in the key states of the western U.S. that are served by United Green Mark locations. Terex First-Quarter Profit Climbs (2005-6-2)
Terex Corp., a manufacturer of construction vehicles and mining equipment, said Tuesday that its first-quarter profit surged 78 percent as it raised selling prices to offset higher costs.The company earned $30.3 million, or 59 cents per share, up from $17 million, or 34 cents per share, a year ago. Excluding unusual items, Terex said it would have earned $30.8 million, or 60 cents per share in the latest quarter.Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial expected adjusted earnings of 51 cents per share.Revenue grew 39 percent to $1.45 billion from $1.04 billion. Joy Global Inc. Announces Operating Results for Second Quarter of Fiscal Year 2005 (2005-6-2)
Joy Global Inc., a worldwide leader in high-productivity mining solutions, reported results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2005. Net sales increased by 43 percent to $482 million, compared to $338 million in the second quarter of last year. Operating income totaled $65 million in the second quarter, versus $22 million in the corresponding quarter last year. Net income amounted to $39 million or $0.47 per fully-diluted share in the quarter, compared with $19 million or $0.23 fully-diluted share in the second quarter of fiscal 2004. Earnings per share in the second quarter of fiscal 2004 were favorably impacted by an $0.08 per share income tax adjustment. Delphi To Develop DCX Common Rail Diesel Injection System (2005-6-3)
Delphi Corp. said it has been awarded a contract with DaimlerChrysler to develop and supply a complete diesel common rail and engine management system for a current and future Mercedes engine range. This is Delphi\'s first diesel common rail application with DaimlerChrysler, with Delphi having turnkey, complete systems responsibility, including components software and calibration. The first phase of the project covers the application engineering and supply of Delphi\'s diesel common rail model 1600 system for passenger cars. Further phases are planned to extend the application to an additional vehicle.Delphi said the new system is designed to provide high injection pressure, improved nozzle design, superior hydraulic stability and enhanced software strategies.
