Grove all-terrain works on floating casino (2005-9-15)
US crane rental firm, Imperial Crane has purchased a new Grove GMK5165 (known as the GMK5130-1 outside the US) from local Manitowoc Crane Group dealer Walter Payton Power Equipment. The 165 USt (130t) GMK5165 first appeared on US soil at Conexpo 2005 in Las Vegas in March. Based just outside Chicago, Illinois, Imperial Crane works out of three locations to provide crane rental services to subcontractors in the Greater Chicago/Northwest Indiana area. The Grove cranes Imperial owns now include a 300 USt (250t) model GMK6300 (GMK 6250 internationally), a 240 USt (200t) GMK5240 (GMK5200 internationally) and a variety of smaller capacity five-axle models, including two 120 USt (100t) GMK5120B (GMK5100 internationally) units.Among the first jobs for Imperial\'s GMK5165 was a series of lifts at the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City, Indiana, US. Grove raises aircraft carrier mast (2005-9-15)
Earlier this year Ness Cranes of Seattle, Washington, US, sent its Grove GMK7550 (known as the GMK7450 outside the US) all terrain crane on board the US Navy\'s aircraft carrier, USS John C Stennis, to help erect a new mast. Work took place at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard just outside Seattle, in nearby Bremerton, and lasted just over a month. Ness’s directive for the 550 USt (450t) GMK7550 was to replace the ship\'s main mast, as the additional weight of new antennae exceeded the structural limit for the old mast. The heaviest load to be lifted onto the ship, however, was the GMK7550 itself. Morris wins overhead cranes contract (2005-9-15)
A contract for two 200t P&H overhead cranes for hot metal charge and ladle service has been awarded to Morris Material Handling by TAMCO Steel of Rancho Cucamonga, California, US. The new cranes will replace two aging cranes. The severe duty CMAA Class F cranes are being designed with 80ft spans, 74ft lifts and will be operated manually from an enclosed, insulated and air conditioned operator\'s cab or by remote radio control.Each crane will have three hoists, a 200t main hoist for the hot metal ladle, a 60t auxiliary hoist for pouring, and a 25t maintenance hoist. The main hoist and 60t auxiliary hoist will be provided with dc variable voltage control.The 25t auxilliary hoist, bridge, and trolley motions will be provided with P&H Smartorque ac adjustable frequency controls. Kobelco ships cranes to Manitowoc (2005-9-8)
Japan-based manufacturer Kobelco Cranes Company has shipped six cranes to the US to be sold under the Manitowoc brand on an OEM basis.In November 2003, an agreement was reached between the two companies whereby Kobelco, who will not disclose the financial aspects of the deal, build cranes to order for Manitowoc.The largest of the cranes to be delivered was a model 12000 crawler crane with a lifting capacity of 120t (132 USt). The lattice boom crane has a 230ft long main boom reeved with a 10-part line. A Mitsubishi turbo diesel engine supplies 332hp at 2,000rpm. The crane offers up to 310ft of reach with optional luffing attachments. It has a maximum line speed of 535fpm and handles up to 12.5t (14 USt) of material in clamshell mode.Kobelco is also supplying models 5000, 5500, 8000, 8500 and 10000.
