ZPMC delivers new crane (2006-3-28)

Shanghai-based port crane manufacturer Zhenhua Port Machinery Company (ZPMC) has delivered a 60t capacity twin lift post-panamax ship to shore crane to Port Otago, New Zealand. When the crane is put into operation next month it will be the third crane in use at the port\'s number one berth. It took ZPMC and Port Otago staff three days to receive the crane from aboard the Zhenhua 5, which stayed at anchor north of Heyward Point for the duration of the delivery. The crane was winched across the offload rails in short bursts, with continuous ballasting of the vessel required to keep it trim in response to the moving weight of the crane.Winching across the bridge section meant approximately 600t of crane was moved from the vessel side directly onto the wharf with a corresponding reversal of vessel trim. Finally, with the seaside legs ashore and over the wharf crane rail, the winching operation was… Continue reading

Palfinger launches new cranes (2006-3-28)

Loader crane manufacturer Palfinger has launched two new cranes-the PK 8501 Performance and the PK 10501 Performance-both of which benefit from its High Power Lifting System (HPLS). Palfinger said that its HPLS technology produces more lifting capacity in the 8 and 10tm class by up to 10% at reduced working speed. Both cranes are equipped with up to five hydraulic extensions. The PK 8501 has a lifting moment of 7.9tm and a hydraulic outreach of 14m, while the PK 10501 has a lifting moment of 10.1tm and a hydraulic outreach of 14.2m.It is the first time cranes in the 8 and 10tm class have been equipped with the innovative HPLS technology. Palfinger said reduced speed makes it easier to position heavy loads more precisely. The larger stabiliser spread of up to 5.6m ensures added stability.Fitted with a clamshell grab, earth auger or working basket, both cranes are, Palfinger said, multi-functional all-rounders.
