Cummins selected for Dow Jones sustainability World Index (2005-9-9)
Dow Jones has added Cummins Inc. to its Sustainability World Index of 2005, which represents the top 10 percent of the worlds largest 2,500 companies.Cummins says its addition to the index is a recognition of the company\'s economic, environmental and social leadership.The updated index will be unveiled at the opening of the equity markets on Sept. 19.Of its 28,000 employees nationwide, Cummins employs about 450 people in Memphis, where it makes and remanufactures diesel components and engines.Cummins is one of 44 global companies incluced in the World Index\'s industrial goods and services sector and only one of two U.S. companies added to that sector this year.Dow Jones considers several issues when reviewing a company for inclusion: corporate governance, codes of conduct, environmental policy and procedures and the scope of their application, environmental management systems, corporate citizenship and philanthropy, labor practices and employee development."Cummins strives to be a good steward of all… Continue reading

Caterpillar Inc. Announces Expiration of Exchange Offer (2005-9-9)
Caterpillar Inc. announced today the expiration of its offer to exchange new 5.30 percent debentures due September 15, 2035 (CUSIP No. 149123 BL4) for its 9.375 percent debentures due March 15, 2021, and its 8.00 percent debentures due February 15, 2023. The exchange offer expired at 5 p.m., New York City time, on September 8, 2005. As of the expiration date, $115,523,000.00 of the debentures due 2021 and $117,846,000.00 of the debentures due 2023 have been validly tendered and not withdrawn, and Caterpillar Inc. will accept all such debentures validly tendered and not withdrawn. Upon settlement of the exchange offer, Caterpillar Inc. will issue approximately $307,000,000 new 5.30 percent debentures due 2035. Qingling Motors teams up Isuzu in engine production (2005-9-12)
China\'s Qingling Motors Co. said Monday it has entered an agreement with Japan\'s Isuzu Motors Ltd. to establish a joint venture to produce truck engines and engine parts in China. Qingling, which is 20% owned by Isuzu, said the total investment of the joint venture will be at least CNY1.50 billion. Qingling will have a 50% stake in the company. In a statement, China\'s largest truck maker by sales said there is great demand for engines and their parts in the Chinese and overseas markets. The joint venture will produce new models of Isuzu engines in addition to existing ones, and will have a target annual production and sales volume of 175,000 engines. The company didn\'t say when it expects the joint venture to begin operations. In July, Isuzu raised its stake in Qingling to 20% from 6.9%. Caterpillar Inc. today announced the company\'s clean diesel engines powered by ACERT® Technology will be the engine of choice in a new fleet of buses ordered by the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA).The RTA will use the new clean diesel buses to take the place of older buses powered by compressed natural gas.
